Casimir Schmidt and Loran de Munck secured a spot in the final of the World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool. In the Nations Cup, the Dutch team, with Jordi Hagenaar, Martijn de Veer and Jermain Grünberg as well as De Munck and Schmidt, did not make it to the final.
De Munck scored 14,833 points in the vaulting section, on which he grabbed silver at the last European Championship. With that he goes fourth in the standings until the final, led by Irishman Rhys McClenaghan (15,233).
Schmidt qualified ninth with 82,565 for the allaround final. Japanese Wataru Tanigawa leads (84.731).
Nations Cup
In the Nations Cup, the Netherlands scored 242,060 points, good for a thirteenth place. It wasn’t enough for a place in the final, the best eight teams qualify for the final. Japan ranks first in the country ranking with 260,695 points.
“We held up well today. I think a 14th place finish will be doable,” said interim national team coach Dirk van Meldert after the Dutch gymnasts had been in action. “The goal was the top-18 and a final, so if nothing strange happens anymore, we have certainly achieved it.”
