The UK will provide a £2.3 billion loan to Ukraine using frozen Russian assets.
The UK will provide Ukraine with a loan in the amount of £2.3 billion using frozen Russian assets. This will be just a small part of the total $50 billion military aid package from the G7 countries.
At the same time, London stated that Ukraine itself will decide how and for what purposes to use this money, the agency reports Bloomberg.
Back in June, a large aid package for Ukraine in the amount of $50 billion was announced. According to the project, the USA and the EU were to allocate 20 billion each, and Britain, Canada and Japan – the missing amount.
From now on, the income of the Russian Federation will work against them, said the head of the British Defense Ministry, John Healy.
British Finance Minister Rachel Reeves said that London wants to transfer this money to Ukraine’s account as quickly as possible. Britain is also confident that during the meeting of the foreign ministers of the G7 countries in Washington, the remaining participants in the aid package will confirm their promises made back in the summer.
Let us remind you that G7 countries froze about 280 billion dollars of assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. And if the EU has problems because of Hungary, which is slowing down and blocking the allocation of $20 billion to Ukraine, then all hope lies with the United States, which must fulfill its obligations to Kiev.
According to Reeves, Britain has fulfilled its obligations to Ukraine. Moreover, London does not plan to control Kyiv regarding how it will manage the aid.
Also, according to Reeves, Britain is fulfilling its obligations allocate 2.5% of GDP annually to defense.
