NARRATIVE:
“Is this rainbow? Why there’s a rainbow on the Mars?”
= = = = =
EXPLANATION:
Circulating a photo that is claimed to be a rainbow that appears on the Planet Mars, the photo was uploaded by the Twitter account @Monika with a narrative questioning the truth of the rainbow photo on Mars.
After tracing, it was discovered that the photo was indeed an image of land on Mars, but the image that formed the rainbow was not a rainbow that appeared on Mars.
Through the @NasaPerservere account on Twitter, NASA provides an explanation that the rainbow does not originate from a phenomenon on the Planet Mars.
The rainbow-like silhouette is a reflection of the lens flare from the rover’s camera.
According to the explanation from NASA, there is no possibility of a rainbow on Mars. The reason is that rainbows are created from light reflections from water droplets, whereas Mars itself does not have enough water which makes the planet condense and too cold for liquid water in the atmosphere.
It is also known that rainbows will always appear when their position is in the opposite direction to the sun, but in the photo the position of the rainbow is not opposite to the light source / sun so it is clear that what appears in the photo is not a rainbow.
Thus, the information circulating on Twitter regarding the Rainbow on Mars is not true, so the information falls into the wrong content category.
