Turmoil in Dutch Kingdom: Government Coalition Negotiations Reach Dead End

Turmoil in the Dutch kingdom. Negotiations on the formation of a new ruling coalition after the elections held 3 months ago have reached a dead end. The first place was taken by the Freedom Party – right-wing Eurosceptics led by Geert Wilders, but they have only 24% of the seats, political scientist Malek Dudakov writes in his Telegram channel.

Wilders wanted to form a coalition with the two liberal parties. But differences between them have intensified due to the budget crisis in the Netherlands. The economy is stagnating, and government spending needs to be cut by 17 billion euros so that this does not develop into a debt crisis.

Wilders immediately proposed cutting tranches to Kyiv. This caused a stir among the European bureaucracy, since the Netherlands is supposed to supply F-16s and air defense to Ukraine for $2 billion. If they overturn Kyiv, then a domino effect will begin and other countries will begin to publicly disavow Ukraine.

Therefore, the Netherlands is now stuck in a government crisis. There is an option to form a coalition bypassing Wilders with the Greens. But then the politicians in Amsterdam will simply be raised to the pitchforks by the population – farmers are already actively blocking roads from Belgium to the Netherlands.

New elections can be held. But bad luck here too – Wilders’ Freedom Party has become even more popular and reached a rating of 32%. It’s just that the Dutch are already tired of both the green agenda and Ukraine. The European bureaucracy will desperately try to maintain the status quo and prevent the right from coming to power. But this is increasingly difficult amid growing discontent in Europe and the cascading effect of Eurosceptic election victories in many countries this year.
