Türkiye withdraws its ambassador from Morocco

The Turkish authorities withdrew its ambassador in Rabat only shortly after he was appointed to this position, following controversial statements made by the ambassador regarding Moroccan-Algerian relations and the Sahara issue.

A Turkish report issued at the beginning of AprilHe revealed that Ambassador Umar Farouk Dogan had decided to summon him to the center after his mission failed, but he did not specify the reason for the decision, pointing to several possibilities.

The report said that the Moroccan authorities were not initially satisfied with the appointment of Ambassador Dogan, because his appointment “was political” due to his closeness to the Justice and Development Party government and his lack of diplomatic experience, which caused the failure of his mission in African countries, the last of which was Tunisia.

The second reason is related to his press statements to the magazine “Maroc Hebdo”, as the report considered that they angered the Algerian side and spoiled Turkey’s attempt to balance between Morocco and Algeria, especially on the issue of the Sahara, despite Ankara’s mostly adoption of the Moroccan position.

The Turkish ambassador had indicated that many countries in the region were part of Morocco in his talk about the Sahara issue, and he also called on Algeria to respond to the call of King Mohammed VI, stressing that Ankara understands the Moroccan position because it suffers from a similar issue in reference to the “Turkish Cyprus” region. .
