Our prediction for Turkey vs Iceland
Turkey’s successful Euro 2016 group stage win was a given, but even more surprising was their elimination of Austria to reach the quarter-finals, where they made the Netherlands sweat. Given that they are the only team in their Nations League B group to have played in the Euros, they are now favourites to take the top spot that guarantees promotion to the top flight.
However, last Friday they raised some doubts by not going beyond a 0-0 draw against Wales in Cardiff, where they displayed a rather stingy game: 33.3% possession and just one shot on goal. It is true that Turkey played with one less player for the last half hour due to the expulsion of Baris Yilmaz, but up until then they had not threatened the opponent’s goal too much either.
Iceland, on the other hand, gave a good impression in their 2-0 victory over Montenegro in Reykjavik, where they could have scored one more goal had it not been for the great defensive work of centre-back Slobodan Rubezic.
All things considered, Iceland’s double chance in Izmir is not far-fetched, although to minimise risk we have opted for a +1.5 handicap, meaning the bet will win whether they avoid defeat or lose by a single goal.
