ANKARA – President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said the Tayfun ballistic missile belonged Turkey will strike Athena if Greece continued to arm the Aegean islands.

According to President Turkiye, Greece is already scared because its capital, Athens, has become the target of Ankara’s missiles.

Erdoğan said at an event in Samsun province on Saturday last week that fear was being felt by rival countries after Turkiye tested the Tayfun ballistic missile.

“Now we have started building our own missiles. Of course, this production scared the Greeks. When you say ‘Tayfun (Cyclone)’, the Greeks are scared. They (the Greeks) say it will hit Athens. Sure, it will hit,” he allegedly said TRT worldMonday (12/12/2022).

“If you try to buy something (to arm) from here and there, from America to the islands, a country like Türkiye will not stand by. He has to do something,” Erdogan added at an event in the northern province of Samsun on Saturday.

In October, Türkiye tested the Tayfun short-range ballistic missile over the Black Sea. The weapon is manufactured in the country. The missile can reach a target at a distance of 561 kilometers in 456 seconds.

Turkiye and Greece are both NATO countries. However, the two have been feuding for decades.

Ankara has complained of Athens’ repeated provocative and rhetorical actions in recent months, including the arming of islands near the Turkiye coast that have been demilitarized under the deal.
