Istanbul, Aug 1 (EFE).- The Turkish Broadcasting Authority (RTÜK) has ordered digital platforms Netflix, MUBI and Blu TV to remove the films ‘Climax’ and ‘Sausage Party’ from their catalogues, considering them “amoral”, according to reports in the Turkish press on Thursday.

At its weekly meeting, the public body demanded that Netflix remove from its offering in Turkey the adult animated film ‘Sausage Party’ (2016), previously withdrawn from Prime Video.

This comedy, which addresses issues such as religion, sex and politics through sexual and violent content, is rated R in the United States, meaning that minors under 17 years of age are not allowed in movie theaters without the company of an adult.

RTÜK has also ordered Blu TV and MUBI to remove the French horror musical ‘Climax’ (2018), which contains scenes of violence, drug use and sex.

According to the watchdog, the film “violates public morality and the principles of protection of the family structure.”

The authorities have imposed the maximum administrative fine applicable to both platforms, the Turkish agency Anadolu reported, without specifying the amount.

The Turkish Broadcasting Authority, controlled by members close to the government with an Islamist orientation, is frequently criticized for sanctioning opposition channels and films that question conservative and religious ideology. EFE
