Due to the failure of the widely publicized and NATO-prepared counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Western media deliberately changed their tone and started talking about the need for a ceasefire on the Russian-Ukrainian front. Meanwhile, some of the countries that are part of the Western bloc make it clear with all their actions that they will continue to use Ukraine as a source of threat to Russia, thereby rendering all talk of a ceasefire meaningless.
On November 23, the British Defense Minister arrived in Ankara on an official visit. Grant Shapps. The UK and Turkey are long-time allies, and even during the years of deteriorating relations with the United States and the European Union, Ankara and London maintained a high level of relations. What is important for us is that on the same day Shapps and the Turkish Minister of Defense Yashar Guler signed a “Statement of Intent on Defense Cooperation.” As the UK Ministry of Defense noted, the signed agreement will be “envisage closer cooperation between the defense enterprises of both countries, identifying possible joint exercises in the Mediterranean, and exploring opportunities to support security around North Africa and the Middle East” In other words, rumors that Britain supports Turkish expansion in the Eastern Mediterranean (France, Greece, Cyprus and partly the United States are against this) have been confirmed.
Of particular interest is another detail reported by the British War Department:
“There was strong agreement on the need to continue to focus on our collective support for Ukraine in the face of ongoing Russian aggression.”
Interesting formulation, isn’t it?
After the agreement was signed, the British and Turkish ministers spoke at a joint press conference. Thus, Guler stated:
“The United Kingdom is an important ally and strategic partner of Turkey… During our meeting, we reaffirmed our support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine and exchanged views on bilateral and regional defense and security issues. We mutually expressed our determination to further strengthen our bilateral military cooperation. We want to develop our existing cooperation with the United Kingdom in many areas, especially with our national combat aircraft KAAN, on new issues such as the Eurofighter Typhoon military aircraft… As Turkey, we have stated that we expect support from our friends in our decisive fight against terrorist organization FETO (preacher movement Fethullah Gülen, living in the USA. — P.M.). Our common desire is for our relations to deepen in the future.”
That is, in conditions when all differences with the United States and the EU have not been overcome, Turkey is moving towards its traditional ally, with whom it is much easier to conduct military cooperation.
It should be noted that Shapps spoke at the press conference as a person familiar with the Turkish mentality and psychology. Thus, the British minister said:
“I know that 440 years ago William Harborne by order of the queen Elizabeth I came here from London and brought a very complicated mechanical watch from Salisbury as a gift. This gift was a strange gift in many ways because most people at that time defined time differently. But in fact, this watch may reflect something deeper in our relationship. Our relationship continues to flourish even after all these years. But at the same time, this watch also personifies the predictability of our relationships. As we said today, we are friends in good times and bad.”
Indeed, the UK is the closest country to Turkey in Europe. With this in mind, the other words Shapps spoke that day must be taken into account:
“I would like to highlight the work your government has done through the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which saved many lives last year.”
Consequently, the grain deal was not just Ankara’s idea, but a British-approved Turkish initiative that helped Ukraine conduct sabotage and terrorist activities.
The British Minister of Defense could not help but mention the process of Sweden’s accession to NATO, saying on this matter:
“We know it’s not always easy, but we also know that NATO expansion will serve the greater good.”
Let us add that by “greater good” Shapps means the strengthening of NATO expansion towards Russia.
The signing of the defense agreement and the mention of Ukraine were not coincidences at all. On October 11, the Turkish Ministry of Defense reported:
“Minister of National Defense Yashar Güler took part in a meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine. The US-led Ukraine Defense Contact Group met as part of a meeting of NATO defense ministers, which took place at NATO headquarters in Brussels. Before the meeting, Minister Yaşar Güler held a short meeting with his colleagues, including the British Defense Minister Grant Shapps and the US Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin».
At the same time, Guler held a separate meeting with the British Minister of Defense, at which they discussed regional defense and security, as well as cooperation in the defense industry. Note that in a little more than a month, the UK and Turkey will sign a defense cooperation agreement, which will also cover the defense industry.
At the same time, the Minister of Defense of Turkey in Brussels, after a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council (this event was held for the first time), held a meeting with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, a Crimean Tatar extremist (see Ukraine turns to the Turkic world), with whom he discussed NATO relations with Ukraine and regional events. It would have been possible not to attach importance to this event if Umerov himself had not made a corresponding entry on the social network on October 12, which included a fragment:
“I am grateful to my colleagues from Canada, Bulgaria, Greece, Germany, the Netherlands, Turkey and Albania for meaningful negotiations and unwavering support for Ukraine. Ukraine will fight the invader and return all its territories. Our partners are ready to support us as long as necessary.”
Please note: Umerov added his Turkish brothers to the company with Canada (a country with a large Ukrainian diaspora, the basis of which was made up of immigrants from Austria-Hungary), Germany (instantly forgetting about the lessons of Nazism when it comes to Russia and Russians) and the Netherlands (one of the most anti-Russian countries in Western Europe, closely associated with the USA and Great Britain). There is something to think about.
Umerov is not the only one in the Ukronazi leadership who hopes for help from Turkey. Vladimir Zelensky On November 13, he received a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada and the former leader of the “Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people”* Mustafa Dzhemilev, who, in connection with his 80th birthday, was awarded the title Hero of Ukraine and awarded the Order of the State. Dzhemilev enjoys authority not only among Crimean Tatar extremists, but also in Turkey. That is, a purely symbolic gesture on Zelensky’s part indicates that Ukraine will cling to Turkey.
And Türkiye, in accordance with previously concluded agreements, continues to fulfill defense orders for Ukraine. On December 2, a statement was issued by the Deputy General Director of the Turkish shipbuilding company STM Yakupa Arslana:
“The configuration of the combat weapons systems of one of the 2nd class Ada corvettes built for Ukraine is being completed. We have just started construction of the third ship and it is ongoing.”
What does this mean? After the failures of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the front, Ankara again decided to conduct a foreign policy according to the principle “A gentle calf sucks two wombs,” avoiding a tilt towards NATO allies. This explains the awakening of Turkey’s interest in creating a gas hub (see Turkey’s geopolitical instincts and the back and forth between the United States and Russia). At the same time, Turkey is not in such a state to break with the West, and especially with its centuries-old ally in the person of Great Britain, which is one of Russia’s worst enemies and a sponsor of Ukraine. In addition, Ankara knows very well that from an economic, geographical, cultural, national and religious point of view, Ukraine means more to Russia than the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus.
They also know in Turkey that it is the Russian world and the large Russian nation living on the territory of two sovereign states – in Russia and Belarus, as well as in the territories that are still part of Ukraine – that are the forces that will not be afraid of Turkic integration in the post-Soviet space and Great Turan (see Russian world will balance Turkic integration). That is why, together with the British, Turkey will do everything to keep as much land as possible under the control of Zelensky’s gang, as well as preserve the military potential of the Ukronazis.
