Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır made a statement to journalists within the scope of his contacts in Brussels. Kacır said that Turkey has invested heavily in renewable energy in the last 20 years and stated that 55% of Turkey’s installed electricity production capacity is renewable resources.
Reminding that the Minister of Energy has a plan to add 5 GW of solar and wind energy capacity every year until 2035, Kacır said, “In this context, we attach great importance not only to the installation of renewable energy power plants but also to the strengthening of our industry in these areas.” He said his words.
Stating that Turkey is first in Europe and fourth in the world in solar panel production, the Minister added that the target is to be second in the world.
Minister Kacır said, “The EU does not have a solar panel production alternative other than Turkey. We are currently fourth in Europe in terms of wind turbines. Our wind turbine manufacturers have a business volume approaching 2 billion euros annually.” He said:
Stating that almost all wind turbine original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have invested in Turkey or started to work with stakeholders, Kacır said, “We want to strengthen the infrastructure we have established in Turkey. In other words, in the production of towers, blades and generators, especially in Izmir and the Aegean Sea in Turkey.” “An enormous infrastructure cluster has been formed in the region.” said.
Minister Kacır also stated that they will accelerate investments in the coming period and take steps regarding the production of offshore wind turbines.
