Turkish Referee Whistles Three Penalties in Controversial Match: Allegations of Betting Scandal Surface

The Turkish referee whistled three penalties in the second half. The last one, of which the Austrian team decided to win 2:1, he ordered in the final minute.

“Or when you go to play a warm-up game and the referee does it his way. Three penalties, clearly influencing the match from the start. And 80,000 euros bet on more than 2.5 goals,” wrote Slovácko striker Ondřej Mihálik on his account on the X network, who backs up his claim with a graph showing the specific amount bet on at least 3 goals in the match.

“The @suspiciousgame_ account has raised unusually high bets on at least 3 goals being scored in the match,” tweeted an X Network account called Sportsman.

After a goalless half-time, the Turkish referee blew the whistle for a penalty kick for Slovácko in the 54th minute. Kvasina didn’t succeed, he even got a chance to repeat, but he couldn’t do it either. Slovácko finally got it a few minutes later, thanks to a goal by Reinberk.

In the 69th minute, the referee awarded a meaningless penalty to the other side. Kadlec was fouled, but to everyone’s surprise, Rapid kicked a penalty kick – 1:1. In the end, Rapid also decided from a penalty, which was again very controversial.

“I thought I had experienced everything in football, but I have not yet been a victim of a betting scandal. All penalties completely pointless, yellow card awarded to the player who headed the ball. An opponent who apologizes to you after the match. It’s sad that this is still happening in football,” added captain Michal Kadlec.

The Football Association of the Czech Republic will also deal with the match. “Although it was a warm-up match, moreover abroad, we will ask Sportradar and Genius for data from this match. The integrity officer of the FAČR will also contact its counterparts in Turkey and Austria as well as UEFA and FIFA in the near future, because the fight against match-fixing is a strategic interest of the FAČR and in this case the Czech club could have become a victim,” the press responded to Sport.cz football association spokesman Petr Šedivý.
