Turkish products with geographical indication – Mugla pine honey

‘Pine honey’, named after the province of Mugla on the Aegean coast in Turkey, has been included in the list of products of Turkey with a protected geographical indication since 2018, at the request of the Association of Beekeepers of Mugla. Muğla Pine Honey is produced by bees which absorb the sap from the local Calabrian pines. Seasonal and environmental conditions affect the structural properties of the substances contained in honey, but Muğla pine honey can be stored for a long time without deteriorating its consistency, without crystallizing or freezing. Mugla pine honey has a wide field of use in the medicine and food sectors because it does not crystallize easily. Muğla pine honey ranks first in Turkey’s honey exports.
