Shortly after landing in New York, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the Turkevi Center on Sunday, which will soon open.
Erdogan is in New York to attend the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday.
He was greeted by the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Ersin Tatar, a group of diplomats including Volkan Bozkir, president of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, as well as by the vice- Turkish foreign ministers.
After visiting the magnificent 36-story skyscraper at 821 First Avenue in Manhattan, across from the United Nations Headquarters, President Erdogan will address members of the Turkish-American community at an event hosted by the Turkish American National Steering Committee.
The president will officially inaugurate the Turkevi Center on Monday, which will also house Turkey’s permanent mission to the United Nations and the Turkish Consulate General.
Built using traditional Turkish architectural designs, including those of the Seljuk Empire, the building rises skyward in a tulip shape and can be seen from midtown Manhattan, the East River, and Long Island.
The Turkevi Center was conceived and designed as a symbolic skyscraper that will add to the landscape of New York, one of the most iconic cities in the world, and will reflect Turkish culture, history and diversity.
