Turkish President Erdogan Urges Tesla CEO Elon Musk to Open Car Factory and Bring Starlink to Turkey

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has asked Tesla CEO Elon Musk to open a car factory in Turkey. Erdogan is also said to have discussed the possibilities in the field of artificial intelligence with Musk, Erdogan’s office reports.

The two spoke prior to the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Also there this year will be Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose government is relying on Musk’s Starlink satellite service to fend off Russian forces.

Starlink to Turkey

Erdogan’s office also said Musk wanted to bring his Starlink service to Turkey. In addition, Turkey is seeking help in developing batteries for its first homegrown electric vehicle, the Togg.

During the meeting, Erdogan also highlighted some of his key ambitions, such as the planned launch of the Turksat 6A satellite in June next year. Erdogan has called that an important milestone in gathering intelligence that could be used for military purposes. Musk’s space company SpaceX has already collaborated with Turkey’s space program to launch communications satellites.
