Leaders from Europe are trying to attract the billionaire, he though leaning towards India
The seventh factory of “Tesla” should be built in Turkey – this proposal was made by Turkish President Recep Erdogan to the owner of the company Elon Musk.
The two met over the weekend at the Turkish House, a 36-story skyscraper located in Manhattan, New York, Anadolu Agency reported. The billionaire went to the meeting with his young son X, which prompted comments from the Turkish leader, who is in the US for the UN General Assembly. “Where’s your wife?” Erdogan asked. “Oh, she’s in San Francisco,” the head of “Tesla” and “SpaceX” answered him and explained that they were separated, and he mainly took care of his son.
X is one of three children Musk has with pop singer Grimes. The two periodically get together and separate.
During the meeting in New York, Erdogan highlighted to Musk Turkey’s technological progress, including plans to digitize government services and boost the development of artificial intelligence.
According to him, the country could cooperate with SpaceX in the future, given the steps taken to develop the Turkish space program. Erdogan also noted Ankara’s success in the production of Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicles. He used the moment to invite the billionaire to Technofest, which will be held in Izmir later this month.
The richest man in the world replied to Erdogan that many Turkish suppliers already work with Tesla and that Turkey is among the main candidates for the next factory. In response to the president’s proposal for cooperation with SpaceX’s Starlink satellite service, as well as in the field of artificial intelligence, Musk said he wants to work with the Turkish authorities to obtain the necessary license to offer satellite services in the country.
Erdogan is not the first world leader to court Tesla’s CEO, writes the European Politico. France, Spain and Italy have also expressed interest in having a Tesla factory on their territory.
Earlier this year, Musk said he plans to choose the location for Tesla’s new factory by the end of 2023. But for now, Europe doesn’t seem to be that attractive to him. Rather, he is interested in India, where to manufacture his electric cars.
USA and Russia: United Nations should be expanded
The US and Russia will propose expanding the UN Security Council. This became clear on the first day of the meeting of world leaders on the occasion of the 78th General Assembly of the organization. It takes place in New York from September 18 to 22 and is the first since the end of the COVID pandemic. The Bulgarian delegation is led by President Rumen Radev. Deputy Prime Minister Maria Gabriel is part of it.
In separate statements, independent of each other, the two countries announced the need for reforms in the structure of the council. Meanwhile, a UN expert reported that the human rights situation in Russia has significantly worsened since it invaded Ukraine in February last year.
Amid the arrival of delegates from around the world just before the start of the meeting, nearly 75,000 environmental activists gathered in New York for a protest calling for urgent action on climate change.
