Atlanta, USA (CNN) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, on Monday, that he will “emerge victorious” from the run-off elections on May 28, adding that he hopes to achieve a “historic success.”
Erdogan added on his Twitter account: “We started work on May 28 in line with our vision for Turkey’s century. Don’t stop, keep going. I would like to express our ambition to vote for all citizens, regardless of the political party they like.”
Erdogan’s statements came after announcing that the run-off would be held on May 28, as the Turkish president and his rival, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, did not reach 50 percent in the first round.
The Turkish president claimed that the elections that took place on Sunday were among the highest participations in Turkey’s history.
“I would like to thank all the citizens who expressed their free will by going to the polls on May 14, and every one of our 56 million people abroad for their valuable votes and contributions to democracy,” Erdogan said.
He continued, “With the maturity it showed yesterday, Turkey has shown that it is one of the countries with the most advanced democratic culture in the world.”
He added that he would respect the decision at the ballot box.
He said, “As a politician who has never known any force other than the will of the nation and has not deviated from the direction charted by the nation, we respect this will that will be manifested at the ballot box.”
Erdogan said that until May 28, he will fulfill his responsibilities to the nation by “running without stopping, resting and running with love.”
