The protest was because of the International Day against Violence against Women. Protesters also took to the streets in the capital Ankara and in other cities.
The protesters mainly turned against the Turkish government’s decision earlier this year from the Istanbul Treaty to step. In that 2011 convention, countries pledge to fight violence against women and domestic violence. According to President Erdogan’s AKP, the content of the treaty is not in line with traditional Turkish family values.
The demonstrators called on the government to rejoin the convention. “We are not silent, not afraid and not obedient,” they cried.
