On Tuesday, Hasan Bitmez collapsed during a speech to the Turkish National Assembly. It happened just seconds after he directed sharp criticism against Israel’s attack on Gaza, several media write.
– Israel will not escape Allah’s wrath, he is said to have said just before he fell to the floor, according to the report Newsweek.
Pictures from the scene show that several people from the audience rushed up to the podium to help him after the incident. CPR was performed on the spot, before Bitmez was taken to hospital by ambulance with what is believed to be a heart attack.
Turkey’s Health Minister Fahrettin Koca says in a statement that Bitmez was “disturbed” during his speech.

Medical examinations showed that two of the heart’s main arteries were completely blocked. He was therefore connected to a heart-lung machine, the Minister of Health explains BBC Turkey.
– His condition is extremely critical and serious, he says further, according to the channel.
