Turkish Interior Minister Announces Arrest of 189 ISIS Suspects in Coordinated Security Operations Across Turkey

The Turkish Interior Minister, Ali Yerli Kaya, announced today, Saturday, the arrest of 189 people on charges of belonging to ISIS. The official explained, in a tweet on the “X” platform, that “simultaneous security operations were carried out in 37 provinces, including the capital, Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir, in coordination between the Counter-Terrorism Division and the Intelligence Department of the General Directorate of Security (…) which resulted in the arrest of 189 suspects of belonging to the terrorist group.” ISIS terrorist.”

Yesterday, Friday, the Turkish authorities announced the arrest of 32 people suspected of being linked to ISIS, for allegedly planning to carry out attacks targeting Jewish synagogues and churches, as well as the Iraqi embassy.

Anatolia News Agency quoted security sources as saying that the suspects, including three prominent ISIS militants, were arrested in raids carried out at dawn in nine provinces across Turkey.

The last terrorist act the country witnessed was on October 1, when the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) carried out a suicide attack in the heart of the capital, Ankara, close to the parliament building.

Two policemen were injured in the attack, while the two attackers were killed, one by blowing himself up and the other by police officers.
