Turkish Intelligence Announces “Neutralization” of Presumed ISIS Leader in Syria

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Sunday that the “presumed leader” of the Islamic State group had been “neutralized” in Syria during an operation carried out by Turkish intelligence.

“The supposed leader of ISIS, whose nom de guerre is Abu al-Hussein al-Qurashi, was neutralized during an operation carried out yesterday (Saturday) by the National Intelligence Service in Syria,” Erdogan said during a televised interview.

Ankara has not announced more details yet.

Al-Quraishi assumed the leadership of the organization since the end of November of last year, succeeding the former leader, Abu al-Hasan al-Qurashi, who was killed in an operation by the Free Syrian Army in the Syrian governorate of Daraa in mid-October, according to Joe Yochino, a spokesman for the Central Command of the US Army (Centcom).

And Abu Al-Hussein Al-Quraishi is the fourth leader of the organization after Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, who was killed in an American raid in October of 2019, and Abu Ibrahim Al-Qurashi, who was killed in February 2022 in an American raid.
