Although they confirmed the news of the withdrawal of citizenship, Brotherhood accounts said that the Turkish decision had nothing to do with Erdogan’s visit to Cairo, and that their citizenship was withdrawn 3 months ago against the backdrop of investigation against them on charges of real estate corruption and forgery of papers.

Al Arabiya Net quoted unnamed sources as saying that Mahmoud Hussein learned of the withdrawal of his nationality and the invalidation of his personal passport in recent days, adding that the Turkish authorities did not explain to him the reason for the withdrawal of nationality and asked him to appoint a lawyer to communicate with the responsible authorities and find out the real reason.
The Al Arabiya website added that Hussein sold an apartment he owned in Istanbul, and is currently studying with the group’s officials his position whether to stay to solve the problem with the Turkish authorities or to search for another country in which to reside.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Cairo last Wednesday, his first visit since 2012. It ended 12 years of disputes between Cairo and Ankara, which amounted to the withdrawal of ambassadors and the cessation of all forms of bilateral diplomatic communication, and even a rift between the leaders of the two countries since 2013, before Relations have been gradually improving recently, up to normalization.
