Turkish football fans shout Vladimir Putin’s name during a game against Kiev

Ukrainian officials expressed their regret that Turkish fans chanted the word “murderer and aggressor” during a football match, the portal “Politico.eu” reports.

A group of Turkish football fans at Wednesday night’s match between Istanbul Fenerbahce and Dynamo Kyiv chanted Vladimir Putin’s name, prompting Ukrainian officials to react.

“Fenerbahçe” fans after the goal scored by Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League qualifying game shouted the name of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Kyiv defeated the Turkish national team 2 to 1, entering the third qualifying round of Europe’s top competition.

“It is very sad to hear words of support from Fenerbahce supporters in favor of the Russian murderer and aggressor who bombed our country,” said Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey Vasyl Bodnar.

“I didn’t expect such ‘encouragements’. It’s a pity,” Dinamo coach Mircea Lucescu told Turkish media after the match.

“Ukraine overthrew Vladimir Putin on Turkish soil with a score of 2 to 1… We advise Turkish fans to stay on the side of the winner,” said Olegs Nikolenko, representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
