Istanbul (Turkey), April 6 (Sputnik).- The Turkish Defense Minister, Hulusi Akar, discussed with his US counterpart, Lloyd Austin, the importance of extending the food pact, reported the Turkish military entity.
“During the conversation, among other things, the importance of extending the food pact, Finland’s membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, as well as the relevance of a prompt and positive outcome of Turkey’s acquisition of F fighters was discussed. -16 and its modernization”, reports the statement.
He adds that Akar thanked Austin for the help provided by Washington to Ankara after the devastating earthquakes of last February.
According to the note, the Turkish minister declared his support for the open-door policy of the Atlantic Alliance and expressed his hope that Sweden would fulfill the commitments made to join the bloc.
On July 22, 2022, Russia, Turkey and the United Nations (UN) signed an agreement to unblock the export of grain and fertilizers from Ukraine amid hostilities. Ukrainian government representatives signed a similar document with Ankara and UN representatives.
In addition, Moscow signed a memorandum with the UN to facilitate the export of Russian fertilizers and agricultural products to international markets.
On March 14, Russia announced that it accepts the extension of the Ukrainian grain export pact for another 60 days, which it described as a goodwill gesture. On March 18, the previous extension of 120 days expired.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandr Grushko said that Moscow accepted the extension of the food deal on the condition that all promises about lifting direct and indirect sanctions on the supply of Russian agricultural products to global markets were fulfilled. (Sputnik)
