The airline placed an order for Airbus aircraft, with the characteristic that they will all use Rolls Royce jets
Turkish Airlines announced that it will acquire A350-900 aircraft with Trent XWB-84 engines, A350-1000 with Trent XWB-97 engine and A350F with Trent XWB-97 enginewhich will be delivered between 2025 and 2033, so the Turkish airline would become the largest operator of these reactors, Rolls Royce reported.
This significant order will complement the airline’s existing fleet, adding to the 40 Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84 A350-900s already in service and on order, and the 26 Trent 700-powered A330s.
Tufan Erginbilgic, CEO of Rolls-Royce, said this announcement marked a truly historic day for Rolls-Royce.
“It is proof that the measures we are taking to transform Rolls-Royce into a competitive, high-performance company backed by profitable growth are working,” he said.
He added that the Trent XWB is the perfect engine platform to support Turkish Airlines in its continued growth. Therefore, they estimate that this order will make the airline the largest Trent XWB operator in the world and “I would like to thank you for placing your trust in Rolls-Royce.”
As the world’s most efficient large aero engine in service, the Trent XWB, which is assembled in Derby, UK, will also help accelerate Turkish Airlines’ sustainability journey.
In addition, it has an advantage of 15% additional savings in fuel consumption compared to the first generation of the Trent engine, is also certified to operate on a 50% blend of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) today and is has proven to be 100% compatible with SAF in the future.
Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, added that this order is more than an expansion, it is a testament to its dedication to innovation, operational excellence and a sustainable future.
“The addition of these advanced Airbus aircraft to our fleet will not only improve our operational capabilities but will also contribute significantly to our environmental objectives,” he concluded.
