Merve Duzdar, the heroine of the series “The Apartment of the Innocents”, is the first Turkish woman to win the Best Actress Award at the “Cannes” Film Festival, as she entered history through its wide doors after she embodied in the movie “Dry Herbs”, the role of a teacher in a rural school that challenges the male protagonist Who thinks he is the center of the universe.

And it seemed that Murphy did not expect to win this award, as she seemed surprised the moment her name was announced and social media circulated her reaction at the moment the result was announced, especially as she was subjected during the past days to severe criticism because of the dress in which she appeared during the screening of the movie.

In her speech after receiving the award, she dedicated her victory to “all the women who struggle to overcome the difficulties in this world, and to those who aspire to live a decent and comfortable life in Turkey.” This caused her to be attacked again, as the audience was divided between supporters and opponents of her speech, as some accused her of complicity to obtain the award in return for “insulting the image of Turkey.”

Dizdar, who gave an emotional speech on women’s struggle in Turkey upon receiving her award in Cannes on Saturday, arrived in Istanbul just in time to cast her vote in the presidential run-off between President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu.
