Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The head of the General Entertainment Authority in Saudi Arabia, Turki Al-Sheikh, touched the clothing of one of the participants in the ‘Saudi Idol’ program on Wednesday, indicating that the aunt she was wearing was not a traditional garment in the Hijaz region.
And Al-Sheikh said on his official Twitter page: “I have two voices that impressed and moved me. I hope the committee will not take my words. it was at the end of the second episode, God be upon him,” he said.
And the head of the General Authority for Entertainment wrote in another tweet: “These are not the clothes of the Hijaz people, and the clothes of a stranger to us, nor is it our aunt … The Hijaz people are on the eye and the head, but this is a distortion of our history, and we will not accept or permit any band or entertainment activity with the aunt.”
And Al-Sheikh added in the tweet: “Even when Yanbu Al-Ghaliya band came in the Riyadh season, they wore the headdresses of the original uncle or aunt of the Hijaz people,” he said.
The head of the General Authority for Entertainment started a discussion with a number of tweeters about “the aunt” and whether it was a tradition and dress of the Hijaz people, and Al-Sheikh insisted that the aunt was “ an intruder” on the culture of the Hijaz region.
