“Some media’s claim that ‘minesweepers donated to Ukraine by Great Britain have been given permission to pass through Turkish straits in the Black Sea is not true. Turkey closes the straits to warships of warring countries (Russia and Ukraine in accordance with Article 19 of the Montreux Convention), the Anti-Disinformation Center of the Communications Directorate of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Turkey said in a statement.
It noted that “since 1936, Turkey has impartially and strictly applied the Montreux Convention and has maintained an unwavering determination and principled position throughout this war to prevent the escalation of tensions in the Black Sea.”
“Our allies have been informed that minesweepers donated to Ukraine by the UK will not be able to pass through the Turkish straits in the Black Sea while the war continues,” the statement stressed.
