Turkey wants to make a fifth generation fighter jet, here’s the shape

Jakarta

Viral on social media photos and videos showing prototypes of fifth generation Turkish fighters in a hangar. The prototype fighter jet will reportedly be officially released to the public in March 2023.

Quoted from p The guide, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) is developing a fighter aircraft called the TF-X project. The development of this jet has been ongoing since 2010, with the aim of fifth generation fighters equipped with stealth capabilities, high performance and advanced avionics systems.

The first prototype of the TF-X is known as the Milli Muharip Ucak (MMU) or national fighter. The aircraft is under construction in Ankara, with the fuselage and wings partially assembled. The plane still looks in the form of a body, there is no built-in engine yet. The cockpit still looks empty.

From the looks of it, this TF-X aircraft looks slightly smaller than the US Air Force’s F-22 Raptor fighter jet. However, the TF-X is slightly larger in size than the US stealth fighter jet, the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.

Reports say the TF-X prototype is scheduled to launch on March 18, 2023. But with the deadline short, it’s impossible for the TF-X prototype to be introduced in a finished and ready-to-fly form.

The fighter’s maiden flight is reportedly to take place in 2025 or 2026, and the first production fighter jets are expected to start being delivered to the Turkish Air Force in the early 2030s.

Turkey itself is in dire need of advanced fighter aircraft after being removed from the Joint Strike Fighter program. Turkey, which has third-tier partner status in this cooperation, is prohibited from using F-35 fighter jets by the United States. Ultimately, Turkey’s plan to acquire 100 F-35s failed.

The ban happened because Turkey played two races, buying an advanced air defense system, the S400, from Russia. The United States, which did not want Turkey to cooperate with its nemesis, ultimately did not approve of Turkey’s purchase of F-35s.
