Turkey wants to buy 40 fighters from the USA

Turkey has expressed a desire to strike a deal following the purchase of Russian S-400s, which has exacerbated tensions with the United States.
Turkey has asked the United States to sell 40 F-16 fighters from Lockheed Martin, as well as nearly 80 upgrade kits for existing military aircraft. About it informs Reuters on Friday 8 October.
That being said, the billion-dollar deal still has to go through a foreign military sales process, subject to approval by the US State Department, as well as by the US Congress, which could block the deal.
“From a policy perspective, the Department does not endorse or comment on proposed defensive sales or transfers until they are formally communicated to Congress,” said a State Department spokesman.
In turn, the Turkish Embassy in Washington declined to comment on this issue.
As you know, last December US imposed sanctions against Turkish officials after purchasing the first batch of Russian air defense systems.
Receiving a second batch of C-400s by Turkey is almost guaranteed to lead to new US sanctions, according to Reuters.
During the NATO summer summit Erdogan discussed the issue of air defense with the President of the United States Joe Biden, calling the talks constructive.
