Five Turkish soldiers were killed today in an attack by the Syrian army. That happened in the province of Idlib, where the Syrian army advanced at an unprecedented rate last week and also faced the Turkish army. In Idlib, the Turks support rebel groups that fight against President Assad’s army.
According to Turkey correspondent Melvyn Ingleby, the Turks seem to want to do everything they can to stop the Syrian advance in Idlib. “This morning we saw a counter-attack by the rebels, backed by Turkish artillery fire. It is known that the Turks support the rebels, but it is not often that they directly support the fight against Assad in this way.”
