Turkey to start testing new rocket engines in space, President says

Turkey will start testing new home-made liquid fuel rocket motors in space, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Sunday.

“I wish to announce the start of the first space trials of the liquid fuel rocket engine technology developed by our country”, he said during the opening ceremony of the Research Center for Satellite Launch, Space Systems and Advanced Technologies and the Explosive Raw Materials Production Plant of the Roketsan National Defense Company.

Turkey has already tested its first solid-fuel rocket, and efforts continue to develop hybrid-fuel rockets, he said. Turkey aims to finalize its project to launch microsatellites by 2025, he said. “We are now in the ‘aerospace league’ thanks to our national technologies and our local equipment”, stressed the president. Roketsan is currently developing its own high-capacity hydrogen fuel cell technology, which will provide a clean energy source for space, aviation and transportation, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.
