Turkey: Skirmishes during protest over withdrawal of agreement protecting women from violence

A series of clashes broke out on Friday between riot police and protesters during a feminist rally in Istanbul following Turkey’s decision to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention, an international agreement established to help protect women from domestic violence.

The group of protesters carried flags and banners to reject the withdrawal.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan withdrew Turkey from the agreement last week, sparking protests in the country, as activists took to the streets to show their disapproval of the measure.
