A disaster was averted at the last moment in the Bosphorus Straits due to the collision of two merchant ships.
The accident occurred when the 80-meter dry bulk carrier AYED 1, sailing from Batumi to Saudi Arabia, collided with the BUNUN ACE, also a 180-meter dry bulk carrier, sailing from Spain to Batumi .
The accident took place at the southern entrance of the Bosphorus, in front of Chrysoupoli (Skoutari).
According to information, the collision occurred when lock the rudder of one of the two ships, which began to drift towards the shore, in danger of crashing into houses.
Tugboats were rushed to the scene and tried to hold the ship that was being swept away by the current. According to Turkey’s Ministry of Transport, the two ships will be towed to Istanbul’s ship berth.
