Turkey sees positive change in relations with Russia – 2024-10-07 07:39:33

/ world today news/ Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated that there is a positive change in Russian-Turkish relations.

Relations between Russia and Turkey have been in crisis since November 24, 2015, when Turkish F-16 fighter jets shot down a Russian Su-24 fighter jet in Syria. Russian President Vladimir Putin described the incident as a “stab in the back” and signed a decree on special economic measures against Turkey.

According to Çavuşoğlu, initially, after the incident with the downed plane, the Russian side reacted emotionally, but now Moscow’s actions are calmer. “This shows a positive change. We did not want the Russian plane to be shot down, but there are certain requirements to protect the airspace. Following the incident, we expressed regret and condolences at the highest level. If Russia takes steps, relations will normalize,” Ankara’s first diplomat told A Haber TV.
