Under the title “Green light from Germany on the purchase of Eurofighter”, the Turkish network NTV broadcasts that “Germany’s obstacle is lifted” to the purchase of 40 European fighter jets from Turkey, as it approved “the start of technical negotiations”.
“A critical stage has been passed for the purchase of 40 Eurofighter Typoon combat aircraft for the Turkish Air Force. Germany, which had blocked the sale for a long time, approved the start of technical negotiations,” the Turkish television network broadcasts on its website.
According to NTV information, “a technical delegation consisting of experts from the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain and Germany, which make up the Eurofighter consortium, arrived in Turkey and began negotiations.”
During the talks, “which are expected to last about three weeks, many technical details will be discussed, including the phases in the procurement process for the fighter jets, how personnel will be trained and how which the maintenance programs will be implemented”, it is noted in the same publication.
If Germany gives the final approval for the sale after technical negotiations, Turkey intends to buy 24 Eurofighter fighters in the first phase (other sources say 20 aircraft). In a second phase, this number can reach 40.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is expected to visit Turkey on Saturday, October 19, to meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
