Notification of incidents of fraud of Greek businesses in Turkey issued by the Consulate General of Greece in Istanbul and in a letter to the chambers, requests that their businessmen-members be informed.
Specifically, the letter states the following: “We inform you that, recently, we have come to our knowledge of many incidents of commercial disputes, in which Turkish companies, while they have demanded and collected sums of money against orders from Greek import companies, delay or do not execute the shipment of the goods.
We remind you that our Office, as well as all local IDF Offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are always at the disposal of your members, to carry out, free of charge, an initial check of the information of their potential partners in third countries, from the information available in open databases where we have access.
In this context, we inform you that, in the last two months, we have received complaints from Greek companies, active in the field of garden-beach furniture, for defrauding them by Mr. Őzcan ŞERIF, who was born in Komotini. In particular, the representatives of the companies in question complained that, while they had agreed to purchase products from the above, by sending advance payments or paying the full price of their order to a bank account indicated to them in Turkey, they never received the products they had ordered .
We note that we have also received similar complaints from other Greek companies, since 2016, with Mr. Şerif appearing as a contractor through fictitious companies or using falsified documents of existing Turkish companies, such as “Gunel Yataklari Adem Dinsever ve Ortaklari” and “Sentez Home Textile”, which was active in the field of home textiles and, more recently, “Yippo Diş Ticaret Limited Şirketi”, which was active in the field of garden-beach furniture.
In all cases, either he, or persons working with him (such as his alleged daughter, Ms. Nilgun ŞERIF and his alleged son-in-law, Mr. Mehmet Yusuf ARSLANPAY) appear to be directly approaching Greek companies, with the advantage of knowledge of our language and lure the particularly advantageous prices they propose.
Several lawsuits are pending against Mr. Şerif in Greece for fraud (in the preparation of which our Office also contributed), while – as we have been unofficially informed – a lawsuit against him has now been finalized in Chania.
In the light of the above, please inform your members and direct businesses that may have had problems in the past in their dealings with Mr. Şerif to contact our Office.
We remain at your disposal for any clarification or additional information.”
