Turkey makes an uproar, its drone can destroy bombs with laser beams

ANKARA – Turkey made a world-first breakthrough by developing a bomb-disposal drone equipped with a laser beam that can burn carbon steel.

The drone will be used by the military after all tests are completed. “The Eren drone is designed to destroy bombs and other ammunition while flying up to 3,000 meters above the ground,” the Anadolu news agency reported.

“The plane was able to neutralize the explosives without involving ground miners,” said Aykut Eroglu, a senior police official.

Eroglu said during the experiment, Eren’s laser beam penetrated a hole in a three-millimeter carbon steel plate from a distance of 500 meters in 90 seconds.

He added, “The drone only takes 10 seconds to do the same thing when hovering 100 meters from the target.”

The drone was developed by TUBITAK, the state defense technology agency, and Turkish company Asisguard.

“The new weapon was exhibited in Konya in October and will be used by the military after all tests are completed,” the Anadolu report said.
