The Turkish export of peppers increased in 2020 by 35.38% compared to the previous year, totaling 150.71 million kilos, and by 54.87% in the last five years, according to the data it has prepared Hortoinfo from COMTRADE.
This increase in exports has occurred despite the high level of pesticides found in these vegetables. In the past year alone, 111 alerts were notified when Turkish peppers entered the European Union, according to data from the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
The average price of all peppers exported by Turkey in 2020 was € 0.91 / kg.
The largest buyer of peppers from Turkey in 2020 was Germany, with 31.05 million kilos, 29.6% more than the previous year, representing 20.61% of the total Turkish pepper export. Germany paid Turkey 36.21 million euros for these peppers, with an average price of € 1,166 / kg.
Russia was the second customer for Turkey’s peppers, with 27.17 million kilos, 18.03% of Turkish exports of that vegetable, for which it paid 20.61 million euros with an average price of 0, € 76 / kg. Russia has increased its purchases of peppers from Turkey in 2020 by 58.95% compared to the previous year and 20 times more than in 2017.
The third customer for Turkish peppers in 2020 was Romania, with a volume of 18.84 million kilos, 12.5% of the total, which it bought at an average price of € 1.14 / kg for a total value of 21.51 million euros.
