Turkey in talks with Russia and Ukraine to relaunch the wheat deal

ANKARA – (Reuters):

Turkey’s defense ministry said on Sunday that Minister Hulusi Akar was in talks with his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts in an effort to revive a UN-brokered deal to resume Ukraine’s grain exports.

The Turkish Ministry of Defense said in a statement that Akar asked the two sides to avoid any “provocation” that could jeopardize the continuation of the agreement.

The statement added: “The inspection of ships loaded with grain waiting in front of the Bosphorus Strait will continue today (Sunday) and tomorrow (Monday).”

Moscow suspended its participation in the Black Sea deal on Saturday, effectively halting shipments from Ukraine, one of the world’s largest wheat exporters, in response to what it described as a Ukrainian drone strike on its fleet.
