Turkey has summoned the Bulgarian ambassador to Ankara

Late last night, shortly after 10 pm, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ankara summoned the Ambassador of Bulgaria Angel Cholakov to an emergency meeting. The reason is the allegations of Turkish interference in the presidential and parliamentary elections. The news was announced shortly after midnight by Turkish television TRT. According to the Turkish media, they also commented on the protests, which took place late last night in front of the Turkish embassy in Sofia.

The Ambassador of Bulgaria was informed that the allegations of the Bulgarian authorities were inappropriate.

At a meeting with Ambassador Cholakov, the Turkish side rejected allegations that official institutions in the country were interfering in Bulgaria’s internal affairs and redirecting voters during the Bulgarian elections.

At the meeting with the Bulgarian ambassador in Ankara, the Turkish side set out a position according to which the accustoming of the Turkish ambassador to the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry and “the placing on the agenda of unfounded allegations by the Bulgarian institutions was met with misunderstanding”.

It is also stated that Ankara expects the voting in Turkey not to be abused in the Bulgarian domestic policy. Ambassador Cholakov was handed a note, TRT also reported.
