Turkey: Foreign Minister Fidan accuses Netanyahu of wanting war in the Middle East to stay in power – 2024-04-19 09:10:52

Turkey today accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of wanting to drag the Middle East into a war “to stay in power”.

“It is obvious that (Benjamin) Netanyahu is trying to drag the region into war to stay in power,” Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said at a press conference in Qatar together with the country’s prime minister and foreign minister, Mohammad. bin Abdelrahman Al Thani.

Fidan said the risk of the Gaza war spilling over into the region was “permanent”. “We will redouble efforts to end this war,” he added.

The Turkish minister also said that today he spoke for three hours in Doha with the leader of Hamas Ismail Haniya and members of the political office of the Palestinian movement. The subject of the discussion was mainly the talks on the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Haniya is due to meet this weekend in Turkey with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, one of Israel’s fiercest critics since the war with Hamas began.
