Turkey exported $ 2.9 billion in passenger cars in the first quarter of this year.
The volume of foreign sales deals concluded by the sector in the first three months of this year amounted to 7 billion dollars, according to data from the Automobile Manufacturers Exporters Association in the northwestern province of Bursa.
The volume of exports in this area witnessed a slight decline compared to the same period last year, due to the Corona epidemic that swept the world.
Passenger car exports fell 1.15% during the first three months of this year, amounting to two billion and 906 million dollars.
Passenger cars constitute 41.5% of the exports of the automotive sector in Turkey.
France came in the forefront of the countries importing cars manufactured in Turkey, during the mentioned period, with 412 million and 213 thousand dollars, followed by Britain with 294 million and 673 thousand dollars, and Italy third with 272 million and 327 thousand dollars.
The sector’s exports to Egypt witnessed a remarkable increase in the first quarter of this year, by 215%, compared to the same period last year, reaching 95 million and 255 thousand dollars.
It is noteworthy that many international companies in the auto sector have investments in Turkey, in cooperation with local companies.
Among the most prominent brands that some models are produced in Turkey, Fiat, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Honda and others.
On December 27, 2019, in the presence of the country’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey unveiled two first prototypes of its local car, in the province of Kocaeli Eli.
The car’s mass production phase is expected to start from 2022.
