Turkey does not accept Russia’s recognition of an independent eastern Ukraine

ANKARA – President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told the leader Russia Vladimir Putin that Turkey will not recognize any actions that are contrary to sovereignty Ukraine . He also warned against military conflict.

It was revealed Erdogan in a telephone conversation with Putin after Russia recognized two breakaway territories in eastern Ukraine.

“Turkey will not recognize any step that goes against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” the Turkish presidential office said, adding that this was Ankara’s principled approach. Al ArabyThursday (24/2/2022).

During a phone call with Putin, Erdogan said a military conflict would bring no one benefit, and that Ankara prioritized diplomacy and dialogue.

“Turkey is ready to do its part to reduce tensions and maintain peace,” he told Putin.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin revealed Putin told Erdogan of the “necessity” of his decision to recognize the rebel eastern Ukrainian republics of Donetsk and Lugansk – a move that opened the door to the presence of Russian troops there.

“Putin said the decision was taken in light of the aggression of the Ukrainian authorities in the Donbas and their categorical refusal to comply with the peace agreement,” the Kremlin said.
