Turkey Closes Airspace to Armenian Aircraft Over Monument Controversy

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu announced that Ankara is closing its airspace to Armenian aircraft in response to the unveiling of a monument in Yerevan dedicated to Armenian nationalists who participated in the assassinations of prominent Turkish politicians a century ago, Anadolu Agency reported, citing from BTA.

At the end of last month, a monument to the participants in the so-called was opened in the Armenian capital. Operation Nemesis – a series of assassinations of prominent former Ottoman statesmen carried out by Armenian nationalists between 1920 and 1922 in retaliation for the Armenian Genocide of 1915 and 1916. The most prominent victim of the operation was former Grand Vizier Talaat Pasha.

Turkey has designated those involved in the killings as terrorists.
