“We emphasize the need to protect the freedom of expression and assembly of Turks in France,” said the ministry.
The government in Paris on Wednesday approved the ban on activities of the far-right movement on French soil. Last weekend, a center in memory of the massacre of Armenians near Lyon was defaced with pro-Turkish slogans. Previously, clashes between supposedly Turkish nationalists and Armenians near Lyon had been wounded.
The relationship between France and Turkey has been tense for some time. French President Macron’s recent announcement to take tougher action against extreme Islamic organizations following recent attacks also fell badly in Ankara. President Erdogan has called for a boycott of French products because he accuses Macron of an anti-Islam attitude.
