Turkey bet on autoGLP as a clean alternative for the transport sector – GASNOVA

Turkey today has the largest autoGLP market in the world, with 4.6 million vehicles using this clean fuel, surpassing Poland, which has 3.1 million automobiles.

The takeoff in the use of autoGLP in Turkey occurred as a result of the stimulus policies of the Turkish government in 2003, which is why in two years there was a strong increase in vehicle conversions due to the low tax rate of this fuel . However, since 2005, once the market began to consolidate, taxes began gradually but constantly, with significant increases in the period from 2013 to 2016, on a par with other fuels such as gasoline and diesel.

Currently, the difference in the rate of the autoGLP is significant compared to other fuels: in 2018, the liter of autoGLP cost $ 0.9 dollars, while the liter of gasoline $ 1.3 dollars and that of diesel $ 1.19 dollars. In addition, the low cost of conversions from a gasoline or diesel car to autoGLP guarantees the breakeven point compared to other fuels in a relatively quick time: it is calculated that 90,000 kilometers is the breakeven point of investment in a car that used to be gasoline, and 125 thousand kilometers in one that ran on diesel.

Another factor that explains the successful penetration of AutoGLP in Turkey is the regulations adopted on vehicle conversion. The government delegated the task of monitoring the quality of this mechanical procedure to the Turkish Standards Institute, by hiring engineers who guaranteed the quality of the vehicles’ performance. Every two years, proper maintenance is required for engine systems converted to autoGLP in a wide network of 1,800 accredited conversion centers, around the entire Turkish territory.

Today, the Turkish autoGLP market enjoys constant stability. Not only do they exceed 4.6 million cars: they also have more than 10,390 refueling stations, which is equivalent to 80% of all service stations in Turkey.
