ISTANBUL, July 22 (Xinhua) — Turkish law enforcement officers have detained 10 suspected active members of the Islamic State in Istanbul, local news agency Demiroren (DHA) reported on Tuesday.
Special Operations elements carried out an operation in ten different sites in the city in the early hours of today and captured the suspects, in addition to seizing operational files and digital material that could give clues about other Islamic State cells in the region.
The suspects are active elements and could have been preparing an attack inside Turkey, the DHA reported.
Turkey has been redoubling its efforts to combat the Islamic State, state officials said.
So far this year, 13 individuals planning suicide attacks have been captured by local law enforcement thanks to information decrypted from previously seized operational files, Turkey’s Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said in June.
Soylu also revealed that more than 82 acts of terrorism have been prevented so far in 2022.
