New revelations about the case of the murder of 8-year-old Narin Guran, which has shocked Turkey. According to information from Hurriyet, the minor’s mother and brother have been arrested along with her other relatives, as well as people from their close environment.
A few hours after the arrest of her uncle and his accomplice, the Turkish authorities seem to be closer and closer to the truth.
The 8 arrested:
- Narine’s mother, Yuksel,
- her brother, Enes,
- her uncle, Fuat,
- her cousin, Mohammed,
- her cousin, Birchen,
- her aunt, Masala,
- her aunt’s husband, Mehmet,
- an employee of Selim’s uncle Mehmet.
The charges for the murder of 8-year-old Narin from Turkey
The mother and brother of the unfortunate girl were arrested on the charge of “participation in intentional homicide”. Her uncle was arrested on charges of “destroying evidence of a crime”. The other five are charged with “covering up suspects and destroying evidence.”
All have been taken to prison. At the same time, when her two uncles, Omer and Kourtoulous, as well as her cousin, Melike, were released after a court decision.
The statements of the suspects
Narine Guran’s mother has described in detail the day she went missing. However, she seems to have run into various contradictions as to when the events took place, which troubled the authorities.
At the same time, his wife who was arrested from the first moment, Selim Guran, uncle of the minor, stated that she suspected her husband from the beginning. “The car in which Narine’s DNA was found belonged to Fuat, but since it was missing from Van, Selim had it for a few days. That day, all day, my husband had it. From the first moment, I suspected him“, she said herself.
It is recalled that Selim Guran was among the suspects from the very first hours of Narine’s disappearance. In fact, as soon as the body of the 8-year-old girl was found, the confession of his accomplice was enough to lead to his arrest.
The suspicious role of the mother
Turkish channels cover with continuous live broadcasts the developments regarding the murder that has shocked Turkey. However, they seem to insist on the suspicious role of the mother, as well as a possible secret relationship she had with the uncle. In that she remained silent, although she may have known that he murdered her child.
An investigation has already been opened into the death of Narine’s elder sister.
She was a crippled little girl who died of unknown causes in 2019 and no one paid attention back then.
Narine’s uncle had downloaded an app and used it to delete all the messages he had received and sent since the day the child went missing on August 21.
The mother of the murdered girl had the same application. Authorities have been investigating since yesterday whether he was involved in this horrific case. If he knew and didn’t speak up or even worse, if he was involved.
And Narine’s father, however, seemed remarkably cool during the 19 days that his 8-year-old daughter had been missing. For now at least, the authorities have released him.
The crime scene in Turkey
With a graph, the Turkish service of the BBC attempts a representation of the crime in the small village of Tavsadepe Koyu, 2 kilometers from Diyarbakir.
Here is Narine’s house, here is uncle’s house and at a very short distance the Primary school.
From there, 8-year-old Narin started with 5 other classmates to go for Koran lessons on August 21.
The last images of her alive were captured by the school’s security camera. And shortly after, the traces of the child are lost.
The stream where the little girl was found is 1.5 kilometers from the village.
People are asking for punishment
The impact of the case is huge in Turkey. People took to the streets. Details of the killing are circulating around the world and it is being highlighted that Turkey is centuries behind when it comes to protecting women and younger girls.
Femicide is not the crime, it is the law.
Human rights organizations are sounding the alarm and accusing the government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan of not doing enough to protect women and children.
Over 400 women and girls were murdered last year alone.
