Starting the match effectively, Turkey was ahead 9-2 in the third minute with Furkan Korkmaz and Ersan İlyasova’s points. The national team carried the lead to double digits in the 7th minute with the points scored by Alperen Şengün from the free throw line against Greece, which could not be organized in the attack and shot repeatedly: 15-4. With the contribution of Alperen and Buğrahan Tuncer in the remaining section, the A National Team played well from start to finish and finished the first period ahead by 22-8.
Hardening its defense in the second quarter and better organized on offense, Greece narrowed the lead to 6 points in the 14th minute, with Larentzakis assuming the score: 25-19. Despite the fact that the majority of them increased the difference to double digits with the points they found from the free throw line, the national team, who had a low percentage in the outside throws, went 34-27 in the dressing room.
Having made simple mistakes at the beginning of the third period, Greece caught a 10-0 series against Turkey and took the lead for the first time in the 23rd minute: 34-37. Greece, against the national team, which could not do what they wanted in defense and attack, increased the difference to double digits at the beginning of the 29th minute with the contribution of 4 players: 39-49. Although the A National Basketball Team reduced the gap by scoring 8 points in 58 seconds in the last minute, Greece entered the final period ahead 51-47.
Although Turkey reduced the lead to one point with Furkan Korkmaz’s accurate shot at the beginning of the fourth quarter, Greece widened the gap with Calathes and Sloukas’s weight in the game and consecutive points, and won the match 81-63.
Nick Calathes, who scored 18 points in Greece, and Kostas Sloukas, who scored 15, played an important role in the victory. Furkan Korkmaz scored 20 points in Turkey.
