A strong earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale was recorded at 20:07 local time centered in the Kozan province of Adana in southern Turkey, according to Turkey’s Natural Disasters and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD).
The focal depth of the earthquake was located at 20.13 km. The tremor was also felt in the neighboring prefectures.
Adana prefect Yavuz Selim Kiosger said there were no reports of damage, while Turkey’s Interior Minister Ali Gerlikaya, in a post on X, said the tremor in Adana’s Kozan area was also felt in surrounding provinces. He also noted that AFAD and all relevant agencies immediately started field checks to see if there are any problems due to the earthquake.
The region was hit on February 6, 2023 by twin earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6, centered in Kahramanmaras, Eastern Turkey, which leveled 13 provinces, over an area that exceeded mainland Greece.
